FAQs
Acrylic, steel or cast iron bathtubs?
Baths are usually made from enamelled steel, enamelled cast iron or fibreglass-reinforced acrylic sheet (there are also a few baths on the market made from ABS - an extremely strong plastic, stone resin and one or two luxury baths made from wood!)
When choosing a bathtub, there are many types and styles available. Enameled steel and fiberglass bathtubs are very popular types.
Advantages Of Enameled Steel Bathtubs
This type of bathtub is popular because of its durability and because it is easy to clean. Enameled steel bathtubs are also typically less expensive than other types.
Disadvantages Of Enameled Steel Bathtubs
Bathtubs made of enameled steel have a tendency to scratch and chip more than some other types. Because of the manufacturing process and the materials they are made of, there is also little to no variation in the shape and style of this type of bathtub.
Advantages Of Fiberglass Bathtubs
Fiberglass bathtubs can be molded into any shape, style or color, and are typically very high gloss and more fade resistant than other types. The molded layers of fiberglass also hold heat more efficiently than some other materials.
Disadvantages Of Fiberglass Bathtubs
This type of bathtub has a greater tendency to develop small cracks in its finish than other types.
The Right Bathtub
When searching for the right bathtub, keep your budget, the available space in your bathroom, and your personal style and size preferences in mind. Different types of materials have their own advantages and disadvantages to consider.
